1 min read

What is QKD?

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is a very highly secure communication method that uses quantum physics to create and share cryptographic keys.

India’s achievement:

It’s a proud moment for India that DRDO has  systematically scaled its quantum communication abilities through both underground fiber cables and open-air line-of-sight transmissions

Do you know the timeline:

  • 2020 (Hyderabad Trial):

  • 2022 (Prayagraj to Vindhyachal)

  • 2025 (The Free-Space Breakthrough)

  • 2026 (Military Deployment)

How this QKD achievement helps India:

Self-Reliance (Aatmanirbhar Bharat): India engineered indigenous hardware and custom crypto policies. With this, India bypasses reliance on backdoors foreign security technology vendor.

Anti-Eavesdropping Guard: QKD safeguards highly classified voice commands, radar tracking logs, and video intelligence transfers across border regions and will enhance security.

Future Quantum Internet: These QKD achievement milestones lay the ground-floor infrastructure to build multi-hop quantum networks, laying the path for hack-proof satellite-to-ground communications
